Later this year, Disney will introduce vertical video content on Disney+.
The company made the announcement at CES 2026 at the Tech+Data Showcase. Although release dates or plans for international rollout were not mentioned, Disney said Deadline that everything is “done” in terms of video format. This means it can be anything from simple clips or trailers for Disney games to full-fledged original programs.
The company added that it is targeting Gen Z and Gen Alpha users in particular, given that they are the audience most likely to engage with these kinds of YouTube Shorts-style vertical videos. Disney also said it is committed to “evolving this experience over time.”
With all kinds of digital media competing for your time these days, it makes sense that Disney would want to invest in shorter-form video content. However, it remains to be seen how carefully these vertical videos will be curated. After all, Disney just signed Major licensing deal with OpenAI's Sora to eventually allow users to create their own AI-generated videos. So it's easy to imagine how Disney could include this garbage dump in a vertical video stream.
