Disney reportedly has a plan to encourage repeat viewings Avatar: Fire and Ash in cinemas – and it involves four different Avengers: Judgment Day trailers.
Among Intense rumors that Avengers: Judgment Day will finally get its debut trailer this month a full year before the release date of December 18, 2026, Hollywood Reporter said Disney plans to release four different Avengers: Judgment Day trailers over the course of four weeks, with each one playing in theaters for seven days before being replaced by the next one. And all of this is ostensibly intended to fill spaces in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Avatar: Fire and Ash has a December 19 release date, so if THR is right about this, we'll have our first Avengers: Judgment Day trailer in just a few days. Marvel declined to comment.
Rumors have been circulating online that the Avengers: Judgment Day trailer is somehow related to Avatar: Fire and Ash, but it will certainly be a unique release. Now fans are speculating about how this might work. Some have speculated that each trailer will revolve around a different superhero team (The Avengers, New Avengers/Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, X-Men). But it might be a lot less interesting, and the trailer might just change a little each week, adding a few extra shots here and there.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is, of course, a major release for Disney. Avatar films with special effects cost a lot of money to produce, but they have historically generated billions of dollars at the box office. Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to follow suit – and pressure is on him to deliver to Disney so director James Cameron can realize his vision and release Avatar 4 and 5 within the next six years.
However, Cameron has recently sounded a note of caution. Talking about Podcast “The City with Matthew Belloni”Cameron admitted he was nervous about Avatar: Fire & Ash's box office performance and was mindful of the “forces” working against theatrical releases in 2025.
There is the potential for “consequences,” Cameron noted. “People tend to dismiss sequels unless it's the third Lord of the Rings movie and you want to see what happens to everyone, and in my opinion that's the culmination of the storyline, but that's not how the public may see it.” And there's the “one-two punch” of streaming and Covid, meaning fewer people are going to the cinema – 75% of the number in 2019, Cameron suggested.
When Cameron was asked how much Avatar: Fire and Ash cost to produce, he wouldn't divulge a figure, only suggesting that it's a lot of money and so the film will have to make a lot of money to turn a profit. “That’s one damn ton of money, which means we need to make two damn tons of money to make a profit,” he said. “I have no doubt that this movie will make money. The question is, will it make enough money to justify repeating it?”
Well, one way to help with that is to show four different trailers for Avengers: Judgment Day before Avatar: Fire and Ash shows over the course of a month!
On the issue of Avatar box office receipts Cameron has admitted that he's “absolutely” willing to walk away from Avatar if Fire and Ash flops.. “I’ve been in Avatarland for 20 years,” he said. “Actually 30 years, because I wrote it in '95, but for the first 10 years I didn't work on it constantly. Yeah, absolutely, of course. If that's the end of it, cool.”
As for Avatar: Judgment Day, a trailer with a duration of 1 minute 25 seconds appeared on the Korean rating board last week. It looks like it won't be long before we finally know what to expect from the film.
