Disney+ is working on allowing users to share AI-generated video content

Disney+ may soon introduce video content created by artificial intelligence.

During Disney's Q4 and full-year 2025 conference call this week, CEO Bob Iger spoke about the “biggest and most significant changes – from a product and technology standpoint” to the platform since its launch in 2019.

One of them is quite simple – content from Epic Games as part of his $1.5 billion deal with Fortnite manufacturer. Iger noted that much of this will still involve Disney IP moving into Fortniteas we saw quite recently with the example of a large The Simpsons crossover, but he suggested that “a number of gaming features” will also come to Disney+. This is quite logical and harmless.

But another one of those big changes that Disney is also very optimistic about, according to Iger, is AI-generated content for users.

“The other thing we're really excited about that AI is going to give us is to give Disney+ users a much more engaging experience, including the ability to create user-generated content and consume user-generated content—mostly in short form—from others,” Iger teased. Which sounds something like strange app Meta Vibesbut inside Disney+ and filled only with Disney content..

It's unclear exactly what form this might take, especially given Disney's extensive catalog of intellectual property. Will it be limited to certain characters or franchises? Iger did not go into detail, although he noted that there is a “need to protect our intellectual property.” Iger also didn't mention when such a feature might arrive, simply noting that Disney is in “productive conversations” with unnamed artificial intelligence companies.

Of course, there are countless reasons to be put off by this news. First of all, Disney is one of the pioneers of animation, a hand-crafted artistic medium, so it's rude to dismiss AI based on all of that as crap. Disney is also one of the biggest companies of all time, so it could easily pay human artists instead of putting money into this crap.

And of course, there's never any guarantee that generative AI got its content ethically, even if Disney ended up making sure it was “protecting” its own intellectual property (especially after we saw how easy it was for people to use tools like Bing to create AI-generated images of characters such as Disney's Mickey Mouse in offensive situations such as the events of 9/11..) In addition to protecting its own intellectual property, how will Disney ensure that its AI doesn't steal from others on the Internet, too.

But who cares when you can make your own AI sucker starring Spider-Man, Elsa and Luke Skywalker, right?
