Disney+ has started streaming movies and shows in HDR10+.
Support is somewhat limited at this time. Only certain content from Hulu, which The Walt Disney Company acquired in June, is available in HDR10+. In today's announcement, Samsung said that “more than 1,000” Hulu movies are available in HDR10+ and that “additional Disney+ content” will support HDR10+ “in the future.” Previously, Disney+ only supported HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR formats.
According to Samsung's announcement today, Samsung TVs are the first devices to be able to stream HDR10+ content from Disney+. The electronics company said its Samsung Crystal UHD TVs and newer starting in 2018, including The Frame TV OLEDs, QLED TVsAnd Micro RGB TVHDR10+ support.
The Disney+ app on Apple's tvOS also supports HDR10+, website Flat panelsHD noted.
Hulu has started offering some content in HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. in 2021. Now that Disney owns Hulu and has created a single… app with Disney+ and Hulu contentDisney+ may also offer a limited number of movies in HDR10+.
Today's announcement is also aimed at Samsung TV users as Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision. By offering HDR10+, Disney+ could become more attractive to many home theater enthusiasts who own Samsung TVs, the world's best-selling TV brand.
