Hightail is approaching after spending more than half a century in limbo at Riot Games, which has now decided to sell it and transfer the rights to the original founders of Hypixel. And while this is great, the game's recently announced price is sure to shock the industry and have Mining craft fear for your life.
According to the official Hypixel X account: Hightail at launch will cost no more than $19.99.which is about 10 bucks cheaper than Mining craftand follows the precedent set Silk Song this is sure to continue to influence indie pricing for the foreseeable future. After five years in the Riot Games box, Hightail was bought back by the original creators, who initially sold it to Riot in 2020. Now the game is finally coming out and is very cheap.
Besides the fact that it is cheap in itself, Hightail “will charge zero percent to modders and server owners for at least the first two years,” making server hosting and plugin development much easier and, well, cheaper. With all these pricing schemes, a game whose gameplay videos have already racked up millions of views in just a few days is likely to shake the foundations on which Mining craft still standing.
The latter developed extremely slowly, important features were released at a slower pace, and although the entire community participated, they were not often encouraged to develop anything on their own. Hightailhowever, will allow people to suggest features and offer rewards, expanding the game along with its developers themselves. And with a low price and almost no barriers to entry, it's sure to be a serious contender in this strange genre that's almost completely monopolized Mining craft.
It will also likely inspire more indie developers to get involved Silk Song's and start lowering the prices of their games, which should lower the cost of games overall, leaving only the AAA publishers to wallow in their $80 empire of dirt.
Hightail doesn't have a specific release date yet, but its lead developer, S.mon wants to see it as soon as possible, even with all the bugs and mistakes, because the fans have waited too long.
