DHS: 2.5 million illegal immigrants left US under President Donald Trump

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Friday that more than 2.5 million illegal immigrants have left the United States since the presidency. Donald Trump returned to office this year, citing a massive crackdown on immigration that he said had created “the most secure border in American history.”

In a year-end report highlighting the agency's accomplishments, DHS said illegal border crossings fell 93% from last year, fentanyl trafficking fell in half and the number of illegal immigrant criminals fell by half. were arrested or deported, which represents a sharp departure from the Biden administration.

“In less than a year, President Trump has achieved some of the most historic and important accomplishments in presidential history, and this administration is just getting started,” Secretary of Homeland Security. Kristi Noem the statement says.

“Under President Trump's leadership, we are making America safe again and putting the American people first. In record time, we secured the border, fought the cartels, and arrested thousands upon thousands of illegal criminals.”

While Trump's first year in office has been “historic,” the administration “will not rest until the job is done,” Noem added.

Of the 2.5 million undocumented immigrants who have left the country since Trump took office on Jan. 20, about 1.9 million have self-deported and more than 622,000 have been forced to leave the country, according to DHS.

The Trump administration has urged anyone living in the United States illegally to return to their home countries using the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home mobile app, which allows users to claim a free plane ticket home and $1,000 Exit Bonus upon their return.

CBP has seized nearly 540,000 pounds of drugs this year, up nearly 10% from the same period in 2024, DHS said, adding that US Coast Guard managed to obtain about 470,000 pounds of cocaine, enough to kill 177 million people.

Taxpayers saved more than $13 billion to DHS, the agency said, noting that several agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Secret Service have returned “to their core missions.”
