Dez Bryant blames ‘soft a– world’ for Cardinals coach’s fine

A Arizona Cardinals Head coach Jonathan Gannon was reportedly fined $100,000 for his altercation with running back Emari Derkado.

Gannon was upset after Demercado threw the football before crossing the goal line on what would have been a 72-yard touchdown that would have put Arizona up 28-6 early in the fourth quarter. Instead, the Cardinals continued to lose Tennessee Titans22-21.

An animated Gannon later got in Dercado's face while forward Paris Johnson Jr. tried to console his teammate, but it apparently cost Gannon a six-figure fine.

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was not happy with the fine.

“I disagree with Cardinals fine coach Gannon's $100k… I believe this only happened because of the soft world we live in today…” He Posted on xField “If you are an athlete with any integrity and respect for the game… you will understand this situation… this is football… this plays clearly in the game… I hope this does not cause a strange atmosphere between Coach Gannon and Demercado..”

Gannon appeared to show remorse for the incident when he spoke to reporters on Monday.

“To be honest, I woke up this morning and didn't feel great,” Gannon said. via ESPNField “I just said [the team]I kind of let the moment of what happened overwhelm me there. Obviously, I try to be emotionally stable and calm because my job is to solve problems during the game and lead the charge. So that's not really who I am, who I want to be, and I told the guys that today.

“So it's a mistake and it's just like everyone out there, yesterday everyone made some kind of mistake that concludes why we didn't win the game and we can't let that happen moving forward.”

This is the first time an NFL head coach has been fined for a player altercation since Bruce Arians coached Tampa Bay Buccaneerswas disciplined for hitting Andrew Adams' helmet safety during a wild card play against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Buccaneers awarded Arians $50,000 for the incident.
