A dark fantasy kingdom awaits at Decrepit
Decrepit, a new dark fantasy title from Jämmerdal Games, made its debut at The Game Awards. The studio is shaping it as a first-person dungeon crawler inspired by Souls-inspired design, which is in development for PC and scheduled for release in 2026.
The game centers on methodical, stamina-based combat that rewards careful movement and precise timing. Players must learn to control their surroundings, read their opponent's behavior, and respond with precise strikes. Secrets hidden throughout the castle provide constant boosts, but only serve as support. Real progress depends on understanding the flow of combat and mastering each discovery. Weapons have their own rhythm, and spells create powerful explosions if used at the right moment.
Decrepit takes inspiration from classic dungeon games like Hexen and Eye of the Beholder while maintaining an intensity similar to modern souls at its core. Each death returns players to the open area without equipment, turning each run into a new test of preparation. There are several gear-focused classes available, including Mage, Warrior, Rogue, and Shaman. Finding items that complement your chosen path unlocks special traits and abilities that determine long-term progression.
While the castle's layout remains the same, enemy positions change with each attempt, ensuring varied encounters throughout the journey. Time spent learning the structure naturally improves future runs, as previously discovered shortcuts remain active, secrets remain open, and previous mechanisms continue to work.
Decrepit enters the growing field of first-person souls-like games. Another level known Ghost Runneris developing Valor Mortis, which was announced in August. This game aims for Metroidvania-style stages and elaborate close-range combat, offering a different take on the genre.
