If you weren't satisfied with the Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition DualSense controller released in May of this year – and I get the impression that a lot of people weren't – then Backbone offers another game controller dedicated to Kojima's latest creation.
The Backbone One – Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition, as the name suggests, is a new version of the popular mobile controller. Trunk Onededicated to a walking simulator balancing on a long box. More than most similar releases, Backbone really sticks to the “limited” part of the “limited edition.”
That's because the Backbone One model for Death Stranding 2 will only be available in 1,350 units worldwide, all arriving on November 6th. You're also not just buying a controller; it will come in a giant yellow carrying case (judging by the size, a size S, so Sam can attach it to his hands) that will contain the controller, as well as a quick start card and a special collector's tag.
You'll have to pay $169.99 to get your hands on this rare set in the US. It will be released on the Backbone website as well Best buy drops(which doesn't have a landing page for the controller, but lists a November 7th release and as an app exclusive. Check back on the 6th just in case). It's not available for pre-order, although you can join a waitlist on the Backbone website so you'll be notified when it becomes available. Given the game's popularity and supply shortages, don't be surprised if this item sells out pretty quickly.
So what makes this controller a Death Stranding 2 controller? Apart from the larger body and badge, the Backbone One gets some appearance changes that set it apart from the standard model. It is made of clear blue plastic and has yellow trim to match the game's color scheme. In case it wasn't clear, the back also says Death Stranding 2 On The Beach, and the bridge between the controllers has a drawbridge logo.
You might be wondering, “Can I actually play Death Stranding 2 on the new Backbone One?” It's a fair question considering this isn't a mobile game, and thankfully the answer is yes. Backbone has confirmed that the controller is designed to work with several mobile game streaming services that the new Kojima offers, including PS Remote Play, Steam Link and GeForce Now.
If the limitations of the recent PS5 controller's Death Stranding disappointed you, I don't think the BackBone One will get a very different reaction, but at least it keeps the house's blue and yellow style intact.
