Tomonobu Itagaki, responsible for the creation of Dead or Alive and 3D. Ninja Gaiden series, died.
The announcement was made in the latest post on his Facebook profile. This news was confirmed by Itagaki's friend. James Mielke on Blueskyreleasing their own statement mourning Itagaki.
Itagaki's last message reads as follows:
“Last words,
“The flame of my life is about to go out. The fact that this message was published means that my time has finally come. I am no longer in this world. (I entrusted this last message to someone important to me).
“My life was a continuous battle in which I continued to win. I caused a lot of trouble to others too. I am proud that I fought until the end and followed my convictions. I have no regrets, but I deeply regret that I was not able to deliver new works to my fans.
“I'm really sorry. That's how it is.

Tomonobu Itagaki was a famous figure in the Japanese video game development industry. He formed Team Ninja (originally called Tecmo Creative #3) back in the late '90s, creating not only the Dead or Alive fighting game series, but also the 3D games Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball.
His career was not without struggle. In 2006 Itagaki's former colleague sued him for sexual harassment which he denied, losing his position as chief executive as a result. He was ultimately found not guilty by Japanese courts in 2007.
Later in 2010, Itagaki and Koei Tecmo reached an agreement after Itagaki stated that the company was withholding bonuses for Dead or Alive 4. Itagaki continued development Third Devil at the Valhalla game studio.
Valhalla Game Studios eventually folded, resulting in Itagaki forming Itagaki Games in late 2021. Since then, this studio has been working on a new game.
Tomonobu Itagaki, known for his love of sunglasses and long career in the gaming industry, leaves behind a daughter.
