For Quebecer Marie-Philippe Poulin, captain of the Canadian team, that means Scamurra will be switched from teammate to opponent during the big competition, scheduled from Feb. 5 to 19.

31-year-old Scamurra will take part in the Olympic tournament for the second time. Originally from the Buffalo region, she was part of the U.S. team that won a silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Games.

In a Victory uniform, Scamurra was limited to one goal and one assist in the first seven games of the season.

Among the 23 U.S. players announced Friday, 16 play in the LPHF, but Scamurra was the only Victory member selected. On the blue line, one to watch is varsity soccer player Layla Edwards. At age 21, Edwards, who attends the University of Wisconsin, will also break the barrier of becoming the first hockey player of color to represent an American team at the Olympics.

Overall, goaltenders Aerin Frankel of the Boston Fleet and Gwyneth Phillips of the Ottawa Charge will make their Olympic debuts for Team USA in Milan.
