DC Studios has already introduced one Green Lantern in the Guy Gardner Superman movie, and as it turns out, fans won't have to wait long to meet even more members of the vaunted Green Lantern Corps as HBO Max officially set the release window for its product to summer 2026. HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys shared the news in his presentation (via Wrapper), confirming that Lanterns will premiere next summer, although a specific release date has yet to be announced.
Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, perhaps the two most famous Green Lanterns from the comics. The series is said to be something of a superhero version of True Detective, with two GLs investigating some earthly mystery.
Lanterns is created by showrunner Chris Mundy, known for his work as a producer on True Detective: Nightland, while Lost Glory's Damon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King serve as executive producers and co-creators of the show.
In the comics, the Green Lantern Corps is a massive intergalactic peacekeeping force whose agents patrol various sectors throughout the universe using special rings that create energy constructs based on the user's thoughts. Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Harder and Kyle Rayner are Earth's most famous Green Lanterns, with hundreds of other GLs serving throughout the DC Universe.
