We recently talked about David Kampf. We're talking about the center who was associated with the Canadiens.
Kampf is in dispute with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who sent him to the AHL. He played a few games for the Marlies before refusing to report to the Maple Leafs' practice club anymore.
And now the dispute has reached the point of no return: Toronto officials are planning to terminate his agreement.
Expect David Kampf to be denied a contract release today. So if he accepts a waiver tomorrow, he will be able to sign with another NHL club.

So today he will go through all the refusals and tomorrow he will be free like a bird. However, this is just a formality: no one will claim it.
How do I know this? Nobody wanted his contract included in the deal. So for free, without the possibility of deducting a salary or exchanging a contract in return, it will not be in demand.
Kampf is earning $2.4 million a year through 2027 under the terms of his current contract. Expect him to sign for less if he gets a job. Perhaps for minimum wage?
So he'll leave money on the table to leave the Queen City.
With a minimum salary, could the Habs be tempted to sign this veteran who can play shorthanded and is a good lefty in the faceoff circle?
Personally, I don't see him signing in town.

The Habs don't like to have extras up top, and I don't think the Canadiens would part ways with Joe Veleno to make room for Kampf on the club's fourth line.

If Jake Evans wasn't so good in the faceoff circle, he'd be an option. But right now, the Habs definitely don't need a guy who won't be able to play in the top 9 and won't be useful in faceoffs because of Evans' presence.
I would be surprised to see the Habs break their team chemistry to bring in the type of player that was a problem in Toronto. He's not talented enough to shake up the organization, having barely played in the 2025 playoffs in Toronto.
