Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs suffers ‘accident’ at home, lands in concussion protocol

Dallas Cowboys' On Friday, an already rugged defense took an unexpected blow with an injury sustained at home.

Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs had an “accident” at home that left him with a concussion, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday.

The injury will cause Diggs to miss Dallas' Sunday game against their NFC East rival, the Washington Commanders.

Schottenheimer said the accident happened Thursday night, less than 72 hours before kickoff.

It was a nightmare season for the Cowboys on defense, as they allowed the most yards per game (411.7) and ranked second in points (30.7) in the league.

Because of this, the Cowboys are 2-3-1 in a division that now looks like it could be a dogfight. The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are 4-2 and looking to become the first back-to-back NFC East champions in two decades, but the Commanders are 3-3 and New York Giants moved to a surprising 2-4 record after beating the Eagles last week.

Injuries have plagued Diggs over the past few years. After becoming a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and making his second Pro Bowl the following year, Diggs played in just two games in 2023 and missed six last season.

He hasn't proven to be at a Pro Bowl level as he's still waiting for his first interception or even a pass defense. But the mainstay of Dallas' defense will be gone for the foreseeable future, which is never good news.
