Cowboys get odd grade after Panthers beatdown

The Cowboys received a strange assessment after the Panther defeat originally appeared on Sports news. Add “Sports News” as Preferred source by clicking here.

The autopsy is still ongoing. Dallas Cowboys after a 30-27 loss, and for most, they know exactly where to place some of the blame for what happened at Bank of America Stadium.

Of course, both sides played a role in the loss, the defense more so, but the offense came away with a pair of screen passes in the fourth quarter and that was the last time the unit touched the ball with 6:07 left in the game.

Defensively, Matt Eberflus' unit was torched both on the ground by Rico Dowdle (183 yards) and in the air as the Panthers crushed Dallas.

And as for John Breech of CBS Sports, he surprisingly gave the Cowboys a B- grade for the loss to Carolina, which I think mostly had to do with the offensive performance.

“The Cowboys had a chance to make a statement in this game, but instead they were tripped up by Rico Dowdle.” Breach wrote. “The Cowboys entered Week 6 with the worst defense in the NFL, and if you watched this game, you knew why. The Cowboys can't trust their defense and their rushing attack, and when you can't trust those two things, it's hard to win the NFL.”

The Cowboys offense must be perfect to win games.

Given the state of the defense and the fact that the unit is struggling to stop anyone, Dak Prescott and company know they need to score points on every drive and potential touchdown.

The defense gave up two runs on plays 14 and 19 in the fourth quarter, taking a total of 11:25 minutes as the offense stalled late this time, and that was the game.

Midway through the third quarter, there was a feeling that the Cowboys, if they were within reasonable range, would have to punt on fourth down because if the offense came through, Carolina would likely score.

It's not a good place to be and there's a lot of defensive soul-searching to be done in The Star this week because things are grim right now and there's no sign of things changing.
