Dallas Cowboys won a Thanksgiving thriller over the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28, to truly make the NFC playoffs.

Dallas needed a win heading into the short week as they are now 6-5-1 on the season. They have now swept the defending conference champions after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday.

Meanwhile, after a big home win leaders Last week against the Indianapolis Colts they got back to .500 with a 6-6 record.

It was an inauspicious start for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys' offense, when the veteran signal-caller intercepted the ball on the third play of the game. Jaylen Watson beat George Pickens' route as Kansas City reversed Prescott's throw after a perfect blitz.

Just two plays later, Rushy Rice, who has fit well into the Chiefs offense since returning to the offense after an early-season suspension, rallied a convoy of blockers when he received a screen from Mahomes and carried it 27 yards into the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

The Cowboys responded quickly, however, with Prescott bouncing back on the ensuing drive. He made 12 plays and went 75 yards, finding his trusty receiver CeeDee Lamb for a 15-yard strike into the far right corner of the end zone to tie the game at seven apiece.

But as CBS broadcaster and former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said, it will be a shootout between the two best offensive players in the league.

Patrick Mahomes and Co. responded with a 12-play touchdown drive for the Chiefs, and it was a game-tying play on fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line after Kareem Hunt's third-and-goal. Travis Kelce made an acrobatic catch that got great coverage from the Cowboys, but the 36-year-old tight end gave his team the lead back.

After Brandon Aubrey kicked a field goal to give the Chiefs the lead, the Cowboys got their first lead of the game thanks to running back Malik Davis finding the seam and hurting him for Kansas City. He broke through the defense for a 43-yard touchdown that ended the game 17–14.

The offensive fireworks died down in the third quarter, but the Chiefs saw another key fourth-and-goal play that resulted in seven points. Rice scored his second touchdown of the game as Mahomes trusts his receiver to rise up and win at the highest point of the ball in the end zone.

When Prescott and the Cowboys took over, the score was 21-20 in favor of the Chiefs, and although he was silent for most of the game, George Pickens began to cook at the right time.

Pickens provided 50 yards on a 68-yard touchdown pass for Dallas, and Prescott scrambled and found running back Javonte Williams for a three-yard touchdown pass. Pickens, however, converted the two-point attempt to make it 28-21.

The Cowboys were able to force a three-and-out on the Chiefs, and after a strong play from Lamb, Dallas found itself close to the goal line again. But the massive play came when Pickens caught a short pass on third-and-8 from the Kansas City 12-yard line when he fumbled the ball and it appeared the Chiefs were going to get the ball back. But KaVontae Turpin swooped in and stole the ball, allowing Aubrey to make another field goal instead of the game-tying pass.

Turpin's heroic recovery became even more important after Mahomes went seven plays and ran 67 yards to find Hollywood Brown for a touchdown to make the game 31-28.

On the next drive, the Cowboys controlled their destiny, knowing they needed a couple of first downs to get the clock down.

Prescott converted a third-and-2 just before the two-minute warning when he threw a 13-yard pass to Pickens for the first down needed to build the winning formation.
