Remember that IndieWire interview back in October 2024 where Lucas Bravo said he didn't want to return Emily in Paris Season 5 because it’s “no longer fun”? Well, I've thought about it a lot.
At the time, the actor (who plays Gabriel in the hit Netflix show) explained: “For several seasons I tried to bring nuance, but we don't have a lot of freedom on set. We cannot change either words or emotions. They know what they want and we just have to comply. It makes me wonder if I want to be a part of Season 5.” […] because my contract ends in the fourth season. I'm really looking forward to seeing if Gabriel returns to his fun, sassy, playful and vivacious self.
“Because for three seasons playing melancholy, sad, depressed and lost is no longer fun. It’s a comedy, everyone around me is having fun, everyone is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into who knows what.”
“It’s fun to play such a different character,” Bravo says of the roles in “Seduction” and “Emily in Paris.”
“What's nice, I would say, is getting the opportunity to portray such different characters,” Bravo tells me about his roles in Emily in Paris And Seduction. “I think as an actor, that's what you're looking for. You are looking for challenges. You are looking for things that have not yet been explored. You want to see what you can do.
“I think comfort is the enemy of acting. When you start to feel settled and too comfortable, [that's] when you stop offering interesting options and working. I don’t have a single actor friend who feels fulfilled.”
It's an interesting statement in many ways, but I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with how he feels about his time. Emily in Paris. It's easy to see how Gabriel's character has changed (perhaps for the worse) over the past few years. Gercourt it couldn't be more different from a simple love interest.
Gercourt is introduced as our evil pantomime villain. However, I think it's a case of honesty – he's not actually the most evil, he just doesn't hide it. However, he is the embodiment of the worst patriarchal traits in human form.
Bravo excels in this role and I think he gives the best performance I have ever seen. Is it just a nice change or is it a real pleasure to be freed from a hugely successful role in which he was not entirely happy? We won't know.
New episodes Emily in Paris However, the fifth season will be telling. Gabriel isn't seen in any of the trailers, so it's likely that he won't have much of a scene while Emily is living in Rome. Is he on track for an as-yet-unconfirmed sixth season so he can have more time for projects like Seduction? Time will show.
