Exclaim! New favorites And Class of 2025 graduates Clothesline from Hell — the scrappy DIY project of Toronto singer-songwriter Adam Laframbroise — has announced the upcoming release of its debut album: Spread with honey will arrive on January 16th.
Written and produced by LaFramboise, the record combines lyrical intimacy with experimental components, such as abrupt tempo changes and turns, and choruses that come and go. Taking inspiration from Elliot Smith, Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails, Spread with honey was filmed in an unconventional way: the artist primarily recorded songs directly onto his iPhone. Today, the new single “Whoever You Are…” is the announcement of the record.
“Most days this is my favorite song on the album,” Laframbroise said of the single in a press release. As for the album's title, taken from a random line during a “half-watch” of a TV show, he added: “The hero says, 'They spread the honey so they can lick it…' and it just clicked. It summed up exactly what I was going through at the time and I immediately knew that had to be the title of the record.”
