Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33The promised free expansion is available to download right now, developers Sandfall Interactive announced at tonight's Trial by Keighley ceremony, also known as the Game Awards.
The update includes new enemies and bosses, a new dungeon, enemies, new language support and costumes. The additional environment appears toy-like and is available later in the game. If you're worried about spoilers (I haven't finished it myself yet), I'd skip the trailer below. I'd also skip the trailer below if the prospect of death by candy seems like a bridge too far even for Clair Obscur, a game full of disarming eccentrics.
The update includes a photo mode to better explore the range of additional hats and outfits. Why don't I wear a top hat like this, huh? Because I have neither money nor courage, that's why. Anyway, let me cry in peace. See below for full feature overview, take care of my old friend Monsieur Blockcott.
- A new gaming environment transporting the characters of the 33rd Expedition into Verso's Drafts, a whimsical storybook adventure featuring a young Verso. Players will encounter famous gestrals, amazing new locations and a meeting with an ominous and powerful creature…
- New music tracks from award-winning composer Laurien Testard for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, now also available on digital streaming platforms. You can listen to the playlist on YouTube here.
- Challenging boss battles for late game players to overcome in the Endless Tower. Defeating these powerful foes will reward players with powerful new pictos, costumes, and equipment.
- The popular official photo mode allows players to pause the action and remember their favorite moments from the game's history and battles.
- New text and custom game localizations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.
- Added support for FSR 4, including AMD temporal upscaling for sharper images and frame generation for smoother gameplay on compatible GPUs.
- New quality of life improvements, other new features, and further improvements to game performance across platforms, including portable PCs.
We here at Rock Paper Vinegar Dot Com treat the Game Awards section like peeling grease paint for a very Expensive marketing machine, but I'll begrudgingly point out that Claire Obscure won a lot of gongs today, and that this deserves praise. Today's update looks like a worthy victory lap.
