Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the biggest third-party launch on Xbox Game Pass this year.
How Xbox wire says the entry is “based on the number of unique users in the first 30 days of availability.”
Sandfall Interactive creative director Guillaume Broche said that Xbox support helped attract more players to the game even before launch, and that its availability on day one on Game Pass gave it much greater reach.
“The turn-based RPG genre has a lot of fans, but can sometimes turn off people who prefer real-time action games, but Game Pass has lowered that barrier to entry,” Brosh explained. “They could just try it and see how it feels.”
“This way, many curious players could start the game, explore Lumiere and the early game, and realize there was something to do here, even if they weren’t expecting it at first.”
ID@Xbox director Guy Richards added: “Sandfall's ambitions were clear from the start and we really felt they wanted to create something truly special, something beyond the team's expectations.
“After playing the early builds, we experienced their compelling story, stunning visuals, and combination of JRPG mechanics with French cultural themes that felt fresh and distinctive. “We knew this was the kind of experience we knew Xbox players would want to discover.”
