Clair Obscur Crowned Game of the Year and Breaks Awards Record

Record-breaking performance of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived! Today, Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33 won the title of “Game of the Year” at The Game Awards 2025, which was an important event for the French studio Sandfall Interactive. The acclaimed role-playing game was the standout release of the year and collected numerous awards throughout the event. In addition to the grand prize, the game received awards for Best Indie Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best Art Direction, Best Soundtrack, Best RPG, Best Story, Best Game Direction, and Best Performance by Jennifer English.

Claire Obscure entered the show with a historic thirteen nominations, the highest number ever recorded for a single title at The Game Awards. By the end of the ceremony, nine wins was another milestone. This achievement surpassed the record previously set The Last of Us Part 2which received seven awards at the 2020 ceremony. The scale of the achievement reflects how positively the industry has embraced Sandfall Interactive's striking combination of storytelling, artistry and role-playing systems.

The only category in which the game did not live up to expectations was “Best Audio Design”, which went to Battlefield 6and the Players' Voice award, which was claimed by Wuthering Waves. Even with these exceptions, the overall night was unmistakably centered around Claire Obscurus.

No other title managed to win more than one award, which shows how completely it dominated the event. His presence dictated the rhythm of the show, and each announcement reinforced the impact the game had since its release. For Sandfall Interactive, this evening was a defining milestone and made Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 one of the most famous role-playing games of recent years.
