Clair Obscur Celebrates Its Game Awards Blowout With A Major New Update

It was almost a foregone conclusion, but Claire Obscurus: Expedition 33 completely crushed it. Game rewards this year I'm taking home small polygonal figurines for record number of categories he was nominated. When the game's director, Guillaume Broche, came on stage, he thanked a number of personsbut he ended his speech by giving special thanks to us players, not with a speech, but with a rather significant game update that came out the very second he walked on stage to accept the award.

Called “Update with Thanks,” it's not just a collection of costumes and weapons, although there are over a dozen of each to be found as well. This is a comprehensive update that includes everything from quality of life improvements – the Picto/Lumina filter, the long-awaited photo mode and the ability to escape from battles – to a brand new area called Verso's Drafts with a ton of new story material, mostly about Verso's childhood, and the final music tracks composed by Lorien Testard for the game.

New content

  • Verso's Drafts, a new gaming environment that takes the characters of the 33rd Expedition to a completely new location with new enemies and surprises 🙂

  • The quest item “Old Key” has been added to the last area of ​​the game. Previously only obtainable during the prologue, this addition gives players a second chance to collect all the journals in one playthrough.

  • Added a photo mode with a variety of settings and options, allowing players to get creative and capture their favorite moments from the game, available at any time from the pause menu!
  • Added the Lumina Sets feature, allowing players to save up to 50 different Lumina Sets to adapt to a variety of different combat tactics at any time.
  • Added a “Leave Combat” option to the pause menu, which can now be opened during combat.
  • Added a HUD Scale option allowing players to adjust the size of in-game HUD elements from 80% to 120%.
  • Added support for FSR 4, including AMD temporal upscaling for sharper images and frame generation for smoother gameplay on compatible GPUs.

  • Global improvement in text readability
  • Fixed several fog and lighting issues:
    • Overly intense effects during the Flying Manor boss fight (which also affected some cutscenes)
    • Overexposed areas in Visages
    • Too dark places in the Endless Tower.
  • Fixed FPS cap at 30 on Steam Deck.
  • VSync can now be properly disabled in Settings when playing on Steam Deck.
  • Graphics settings have now been adjusted for Steam Deck users.
  • Improved initial setup process:
    • Controller input is now supported in setup wizards (no longer touch screen only)
  • External controllers now easily switch with Steam Deck controls.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where using a combat replay after a cinematic or auto trigger could take the player out of the world if the last save was created in a different location.
  • Game time displayed in save files now accurately reflects total game time, including time spent completing the game.
    (Note: This fix does not retroactively update existing save files.)
  • Inventory behavior has been fixed so that the sorting order is preserved after closing the game menu.
  • Fixed an issue where the Intel XeSS Frame Generation setting was not available in PC Game Pass.
  • Fixed an issue where the use of certain diacritics (such as ^, ~, ´, `) on Windows would be blocked after launching a title.
  • Fixed a bug where Breaking Death would always break all enemies when a character dies, it should only break the enemy that killed the character. As a result, it should no longer work when a character kills himself.
  • Character turn order during the first hit caused by an enemy attack on the map now correctly takes into account character speed.
