Dome Center LLC, which owns the Sunset Boulevard property where the iconic movie theater sits, has filed a lawsuit application for a conditional permit to sell alcohol for on-site consumption at the Cinerama Dome theater and its adjacent multiplex on Tuesday.
According to the application filed by company representative Elizabeth Peterson-Gower of Place Weavers Inc., the Dome Center is seeking a new permit that will “allow for the continued sale and dispensing of a full line of alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption in conjunction with the existing Cinerama dome theater, 14 screens in the Arclight Cinemas theater complex and a restaurant/café with two outdoor dining terraces from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily.” This will be an extension of the current 10-year permit, which expires on November 5th.
findings document filed in City Planning Department also mentions that “when the theater reopens, it will create additional jobs in Hollywood and revitalize the surrounding streets, increasing safety and revitalizing the neighborhood once again.” There is no timetable for reopening.
A representative for Dome Center LLC did not immediately respond Friday to a request for comment.
The Cinerama Dome, which first opened in 1963, has been closed since it was closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. was announced in April 2021 that favorite theater will remain closed even after the pandemic, as it turned out in December That same year, the Cinerama Dome and its adjacent theater complex were slated to eventually reopen.

At a public hearing about the nearby Blue Note jazz club in June, Peterson as reported indicated that while no final plans had been made, the property owners had reached out to her to discuss the next Cinerama Dome project. Perhaps this new permit application is a sign that plans are finally coming together.
