Chrysler is recalling hundreds of thousands of Jeep hybrid vehicles due to a faulty battery that can fail and cause a fire.
The recall affects more than 20,000 vehicles in Canada. 320,000 in the US and more than 30,000 in other markets.
Chrysler, which is owned by Dutch company Stellantis, is aware of 19 fires and one injury potentially related to the problem, which were discovered during an internal investigation.
The batteries were manufactured by Samsung SDI America, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Vehicle owners, including some Jeeps Wrangler 4xe model year vehicles between 2020-2025 and some SUVs Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 2022-2026 model years – It is recommended that vehicles be parked outside and away from structures until a solution is determined.
Vehicle owners should also avoid charging vehicles as the risk is reduced when the battery is depleted, the company said.
Interim notice letters are expected to be sent to vehicle owners by December 2, with additional letters to be sent once a final remedy is available.
