Christopher Nolan Jokes ‘Batman Begins’ Was “Consolation Prize”

20 years later, Christopher Nolan is finally getting its ancient Greek cinematic moment in the upcoming adaptation of Homer's tale. Odyssey.

The two-time Oscar winner recently joked that his directorial work Batman Begins was a “consolation prize” after a shuffling of projects ended with the return of director Wolfgang Petersen. Troy after it Batman v Superman was written off in Warner Bros.only for the studio to hand Nolan the reins of The Dark Knight.

“I was originally hired by Warner Bros. for staging Troy“, he said Empire. “Wolfgang developed it, and so when the studio decided not to move forward with his superhero film, [Batman vs. Superman]he wanted [Troy] back.”

Nolan continued: “At the end of the day, it was a world that I was very interested in exploring. So it was in the back of my mind for a very long time. Particularly some of the imagery. How I wanted to deal with the Trojan horse and things like that.”

After moving from Warner Bros. with his 12th film Oppenheimer (2023), winning seven Oscars and earning more than $975 million worldwide. UniversalNolan announced Odyssey he has his next collaboration with the studio in December last year.

Nolan told Empire“As a director, you look for gaps in cinematic culture, things that haven't been done before. And I saw that all these great mythological cinematic works that I grew up with – the Ray Harryhausen films and other things – I had never seen them done with the kind of weight and credibility that an A-budget and a big Hollywood IMAX film could do.”
