Chinese scientists build bongkrekic acid knowledge

Chinese scientists have studied the presence of rare, but dangerous bacteria in mushroom products.

Burkholderia Gladioli Pathovar Cocovenenans can cause fatal poisoning. Most cases were reported in China, mainly from fermented grain products.

Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, weakness and palpation. From 2005 to 2020, 30 outbreaks were registered, as a result of which 85 deaths were received.

Burkholderia Gladioli Pathovar Cocovenenans causes poisoning, producing a bongrek -acid that cannot be destroyed in cooking.

A study published in China CDC WeeklyDetails of pollution in commercial mushrooms and analyzed the environmental conditions for the production of an acid bongrect.

Detection rate in samples
Dried black mushroom and dried Tremell Fuciformis, edible mushroom, saturated in sterile water for a number of time and temperature periods. Scientists said that people should avoid the use of fungi saturated with 24 hours or more, regardless of temperature.

In 2023, 85 food samples in the Shanghai markets were collected. Sixty were purchased in the markets in the districts of Sukhui, Channing and Minghang, and 25 from online stores in Shanghai.

In general, Burkholderia Gladioli was found in 38 out of 85 samples. The highest level of detection was in a dried black fungus with 34 of 36 positive results, followed by fresh Tremell with two of 12 positive results, and fresh black mushroom and dried Tremell Fucormis with one positive.

Burkholderia Gladioli Pathovar Cocovenenans was found in 14 of 36 samples of dried black fungus. The concentrations of bongrekkinic acid was discovered.

The previous study showed that the optimum temperature and pH for Burkholderia Gladioli Pathovar CocoveNens growth is 37 degrees C (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit), and PH 6, while for bongrekkinic acid, these numbers are 30 degrees C (86 degrees Farengeite) and PH 7.

The results show that the Burkholderia Gladioli Pathovar Cocovenens isolates have different opportunities for the production of bongrekkinic acid.

“Control of pollution in raw materials is crucial for preventing Burkholderia Gladioli pollution in dried black fungus and Tremella fuciformis,” scientists said.

The risk of CITROBACTER
Meanwhile, another study connected Citrobacter with two incidents in East China in August 2022 and October 2023.

Scientists have studied the role of Citrobacter Portucalensis and Citrobacter Freundii as opportunistic pathogens in outbreaks of diariy of the food bone. The results were published in Journal of food microbiologyField

Local centers for the control and prevention of diseases in East China reported two food poisoning incidents. One outbreak caused diarrhea and vomiting among 23 employees of two companies, and the other suffered from high school students, without common pathogens allocated in the primary test.

“This study emphasizes the importance of monitoring Citrobacter species in the context of food safety and emphasizes abandoned emerging pathogens involved in these outbreaks in the region,” the researchers said.
