This car is impressive for an EV under $30,000. Its power comes from a 65-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery, which Chevrolet says lasts 255 miles on a full charge. That's a modest increase over the previous Bolt EV, and is enough for most daily use, especially when combined with truly fast charging – up to 150 kilowatts, with a 10% to 80% top-up in just 26 minutes.
The Chevrolet package includes a CCS adapter for older chargers, and also has a native port NAKSmeaning Access to Tesla Supercharger built in from day one. The Bolt's new bidirectional charging setup allows it to deliver up to 9.6 kilowatts of energy, allowing owners to feed power back into their homes during power outages or peak hours.
The performance must also be live. The front-wheel drive setup produces 210 horsepower, and the regenerative braking can be adjusted between low, high or mixed modes for a more personalized driving experience. The Bolt continues to rely on practicality, offering 16 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and up to 57 cubic feet with the seats folded. This makes it suitable for small families or city drivers who sometimes need more space (though it's certainly not an SUV).
Inside, Chevrolet has upgraded the interface with an 11.3-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster. The big omission is Apple CarPlay And Android Autowhich GM decided to ditch in favor of its own infotainment system with built-in connectivity. A McKinsey Study 2023 showed that roughly 50% of US car buyers wouldn't consider a car without Apple CarPlay – so this looks like a big miss on General Motors' part.
Optional hands-free Super Cruise driving enables semi-autonomous highway operation, including lane changes, route following, and automatic merging between interchanges. These features were once only available on much more expensive electric vehicles, but they're now appearing in more affordable cars, which is a win for car buyers.
Chevrolet offers the car in three trim levels: the base LT for $28,995, LT Comfort for $29,990, and the sportier RS trim for about $32,000. Deliveries will begin in the U.S. in early 2026, with all models produced at GM's Fairfax, Kansas plant. At a time when many electric cars still cost well above $40,000, this one might just prove that the affordable EV isn't dead after all.
