The Town of Chesterton and the Dune Country Chamber of Commerce announced on social media that the annual Twilight Holiday Parade scheduled for Saturday evening has been postponed due to weather and safety concerns.
Northwest Indiana and the Chicago area will be under a winter storm warning from 3 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, with more than 6 inches of snow possible, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm's greatest impact, according to the weather service, could occur Saturday afternoon, with snowfall of up to 1 inch per hour.
The parade has been rescheduled for 5:15 p.m. on Friday, December 5th. Likewise, the Saturday Mistletoe Market in Chesterton has been cancelled, although the market on Saturday 6 December will run from 8am to 2pm.
“Based on guidance from the City of Chesterton Police and Street Departments, it has been determined that the expected conditions will not allow them to provide the personnel and support necessary to safely conduct the event,” the chamber said in a Facebook post.
The Chamber expressed gratitude to all parade participants, businesses and community partners for their understanding and flexibility.
