Chelsea news: How does Moises Caicedo compare with N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele?

Despite their similar stances, Makelele and Kante were somewhat different in style.

Makelele was not about distance, speed and flair – it was about defense, defense and control of the game.

And while Kante still retained these characteristics of his compatriot, the widely used football joke that “70% of the ground is covered in water and the rest belongs to N'Golo Kante”, although ironic, still stems from the France international's incredible ability to cover the pitch and be the engine room of the team.

Caicedo had a rocky start to life at Chelsea – perhaps due to the £115m fee – but he has settled into his role and his numbers continue to rise.

When compared over 90 minutes, the similarities between all three midfielders are striking.

As expected, Makelele leads him in some of the more defensive stats such as tackling and interceptions, with Kante coming to the fore when it comes to tackling and moving with the ball.

Coming out on top in duel attempts, Caicedo shows his fearlessness when fighting for the ball, but his ability to use it really shines when it comes to passing.

With 55.7 successful passes per 90 minutes and a passing accuracy of 90.6%, Caicedo took the lead in these indicators.

Having grown up watching both legendary Chelsea midfielders, Caicedo may now be developing into a player who shares the strengths of both – and that can only be an exciting prospect for Blues fans.
