Since nothing is safe from enchittification, a startup called Takway has introduced an AI-powered version of Tamagotchi.
At CES 2026, the company showed off Sweekar, a small egg-shaped toy with artificial intelligence. Like Tamagotchi, this virtual companion requires you to feed it and play with it, but to enhance interactivity, it also uses artificial intelligence to respond to and remember your behavior.
This means it can, among other things, “sense your touch” and recognize “your voice, your stories and your quirks.” (Not at all terrible for a child's toy.) The idea is that the user will help the egg progress through the stages of “child”, “teenager” and “adult”.
Covering a device at CES, Gizmodo says it uses a mixture of Google's Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT. However, the publication notes that there was no word on what privacy protections are in place in Sweekar, especially since it is intended for children. As the publication notes, there are also ongoing concerns about how AI reacts to children. even with toys.
The Kickstarter for Sweekar is currently slated to launch in March, with the final price expected to fall between $150 and $200 USD (roughly $205 to $275 CAD).
