Caufield scores OT winner as Canadiens beat Kraken

SEATTLE — Cole Cofield tied a Montreal record with his 11th career overtime goal, leading the Canadiens to a 4–3 victory over the Canadiens. Seattle Kraken on Tuesday after they blew a 3-0 lead midway through the third period.

Caufield, who had two goals and an assist, led the NHL with his ninth goal of the season. He slid behind the net and then snuck back to the line to surprise Kraken goalie Joey Daccord and tuck the puck into the post 44 seconds into overtime.

Caufield, who scored a career-high 37 goals and 70 points last season, has four multi-goal games this season. The 2019 first-round draft pick scored twice in a win over Seattle in Montreal's home opener on Oct. 14, including a 5-4 decision in overtime that night.

Juraj Slafkowski and Alex Newhook each had a power-play goal and Nick Suzuki had three assists for the Canadiens (8-3), who improved to 5-2 on the road this season to complete a four-game road trip. Jakub Dobes improved to 6-0 with 18 saves.

Brandon Montour scored two goals and Shane Wright scored in between as the Kraken (5-2-3) struck back. Montour, a 10-year defenseman, scored a career-high 18 goals last season. He left the Kraken for four games last week to be with his family following the death of his older brother Cameron from complications from ALS.

Newhook has three goals and six points in his last five games for the Canadiens, who are 3-1 with one goal in all games. They won 30 of 49 faceoffs against the Kraken and scored both goals on the power play.

Montreal will host Ottawa on Saturday. Seattle will host the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
