Carney says ports, minerals key to his plan to double non-U.S. exports – Winnipeg Free Press

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney says building port infrastructure and exporting more resources, such as critical minerals from Ontario's Ring of Fire, are key to his plan to boost Canada's exports outside the United States.

Carney says he has a goal of doubling Canada's exports outside the U.S. over the next decade to open up about $300 billion in new trade.

On Wednesday night, Carney gave a speech in Ottawa in which he described his government's upcoming budget as one that will stimulate unprecedented levels of private sector investment and spark a construction boom.

But Carney didn't explain what he meant when he said Canada would have to do less to build more, adding that Canadians would have to wait for the budget.

The Liberal Party House leader has publicly expressed concerns about whether opposition parties will allow the budget to be passed when it is tabled on November 4.
