Canadian speed skaters Courtney Saro and William Dandjinou won gold medals Saturday at the World Tour short track speed skating event in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.
Moncton's Sarao made a long pass to Dutch speedster Xandra Welzeboer with four laps remaining to take first place in the women's 1000m final.
Danginou of Montreal and his Canadian teammate Felix Roussel of Sherbrooke, Quebec, finished one-two in the men's 1,500 meters.
Danjin's silver medal in the 500 meters helped him capture the overall World Tour title over the distance.
The 24-year-old crossed the line third but was promoted when teammate Steven Dubois of Lachenay, Quebec, was penalized for bumping into rival Pietro Siegel, sending the Italian crashing into the protective mats.
Saro's victory was her third this season after winning back-to-back gold in Montreal and silver last week in Gdansk, Poland.
“I'm very happy with my race,” she said. “I had some doubts yesterday, but today I woke up and focused on what I can control and also have fun, and it paid off.”
Danginou led with 1,500 miles to go with four laps to go, passing leader Jens Van 'T Wout of the Netherlands.
During the pass, the Dutchman was forced to go inside the line, causing him to lose enough speed for Roussel to take second place.
“I’m very happy to share the podium with Felix today over 1,500 miles, in such an incredible atmosphere as here in Dordrecht,” said Danginou. “I’m also happy with my 500. It was a little more strategic race.
“I learned a lot of lessons for myself and the team as a whole on this competition day.”
24-year-old Roussel reached the podium for the first time this season.
“There is no better feeling than seeing two Canadians at the top of the podium,” Roussel said. “Sharing the podium with William is always something special.
“It was definitely emotional. This word best describes how I felt after the finale. It was a really difficult season. I needed to find a reference point on the international stage.”
Dordrecht was the last of four World Tour stops before the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, Italy, in February.
The racing will conclude on Sunday with the men's 1000m relay, women's 500m and 1500m relay and mixed relay.
The Crystal Globes, which will go to the men's and women's overall season leaders, currently held by Danjin and Saro, will be awarded on Sunday.
