Rap icon Drake became “radically Canadian” with his wardrobe choices this week.
The homegrown megastar was captured on video wearing a vintage Toronto Argonauts jersey. The clip was originally posted on Instagram on Friday by famed DJ Gordo to promote his performance at the Space club in Miami on Saturday morning. It showed Drake hanging out in the kitchen and reflecting on how their collaboration on 2024's “Sideways” led to an appearance at the famous nightclub.

Despite the questionable cut mid-riff, the Argos jersey turned out to be a genuine Drake item, featuring the name and number of former quarterback Donald Smith. The Danville, Virginia native played in Toronto from 1996 to 1999, winning two Gray Cups and earning Eastern Division All-Star honors in 1998. During his CFL career, he also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1992-94), Memphis Mad Dogs (1995) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2000), amassing 406 passes defensed and 100 special teams assists. tackles, 33 interceptions and three touchdowns in a total of 139 CFL games.
Drake is the most certified digital singles artist in history and holds the record for the most songs in the Billboard Top 100 all-time (358) as well as the most Top 10 hits (80). He is best known for songs such as “Started From The Bottom”, “Hotline Bling” and “First Person Shooter”. The 39-year-old musician has become a controversial figure in the music industry as of late, having been involved in a public spat with Kendrick Lamar that culminated with him being openly insulted during the Super Bowl halftime show last year.
Fans have long complained about the fact that the former Degrassi star rarely shows any love for the CFL, despite being an integral part of the Toronto sports scene and having a long-standing partnership with the Argonauts' owners, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, at NBA events. However, things seem to be changing as the rapper shared a photo with a diamond-encrusted Saskatchewan Roughriders logo in May and launched an official line of CFL merchandise through its OVO clothing brand. in June.
While Drake walking around the house in an Argos jersey may not be the intended collaboration some are calling for, it does provide meaningful marketing for the league. Gordo has 1.6 million followers on Instagram, while Drake personally has a staggering 142 million followers. This is something the CFL can't buy.
