Canada's zero-emission vehicle (iZEV) incentive program has officially ended after months on the chopping block.
Transport Canada, which is responsible for iZEVs, confirmed last week that the federal incentive, which offered consumers $5,000 for BEVs and PHEVs, has now ended after months of telling the general public that EV incentives had only been suspended.
The iZEV had problems at the beginning of the year. By January, the program had only C$71 million left in funding. and after three days it was dry. Shortly after, the project was put on pause as Environment Minister Julie Dobrusen announced that The government is working on a new incentive for electric vehicles.
