The BC Lions have signed American defenseman Harry Peters to a one-year contract extension, keeping him with the team until 2026.
The 34-year-old defensive end missed two games with a knee injury in 2025, ending his streak at 115. But in 16 games, he made 49 defensive tackles, three interceptions, six knockdown passes and a forced fumble, and added six tackles and a pair of knockdowns in two playoff contests.
“Harry has proven to be one of the best and most consistent defenders in the CFL,” general manager Ryan Rigmaiden said in a statement.
“He has also taken the next step and become the leader of our secondary team. As we continue to build our roster, we are pleased to know that GP will be a BC Lion in 2026.”
Peters enters his eighth season with the Lions and ranks eighth in the franchise record books for defensive tackles. The six-foot, 200-pound man was an All-CFL selection at both the league and division level in 2022 and 2023.
Before joining the Lions in 2018, the Clemson product spent two seasons with the Edmonton football team. In 139 career CFL games, he totaled 440 defensive tackles, 19 special teams tackles, two sacks, 19 interceptions and three forced fumbles.
The BC Lions finished second in the West Division standings in 2025 with an 11-7 record and beat the Calgary Stampeders in the West Semi-Finals before losing to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the West Final. Nathan Rourke threw for 5,290 yards, 31 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 16 regular-season starts, posting an 11-5 record. He was also named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player.
The Lions ranked first in net offense, fourth in net defense and sixth with a minus-four turnover margin. James Butler rushed for 1,213 yards, Keon Hatcher led the CFL with 1,688 receiving yards and Micah Awe led the league with 117 tackles. British Columbia ranked third in attendance with an average attendance of 27,124, up 0.9 percent from the previous year.
