A Calgary teenager has been charged with multiple criminal offenses after he allegedly used artificial intelligence technology to sexualize photos of teenage girls at several local high schools.
Investigators According to the police report, on November 13, they raided the house of the accused teenager and seized two mobile phones, a tablet and a laptop. Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).
The investigation began in October after ICE received information about child sexual abuse material being posted on social media.
The teenager allegedly used artificial intelligence to harass teenage girls who attended several different high schools in the Calgary area.
Police said they are not naming the defendants or the schools to protect the identities of the victims. Support services were offered to those affected.
The 17-year-old was charged with producing, possessing and distributing sexually abusive and child exploitation material, as well as criminal stalking.
“The Criminal Code defines child sexual abuse and exploitation material as including photographs, videos and any visual depictions of persons under 18 years of age or those depicted under 18 years of age engaging in sexually explicit activity,” said ALERT ICE Officer Sgt. Mark Auger.
As of October 10, the term “child pornography” no longer exists in the Criminal Code of Canada. It was replaced with “material of sexual abuse and exploitation of children.”
“Teenagers need to realize that creating such images and sharing deep fakes is considered an extreme form of bullying and a criminal offense and we will take action against it,” Auger said.
The defendant was released on several court-ordered conditions, including that he have no contact with anyone under 16 except for work or school purposes and that he does not have any electronics capable of accessing the Internet except for work or school purposes.
His next court appearance is scheduled for January 8, 2026.
