The agency has previously warned of serious injuries and deformities that can result from the use of injectable silicone or products to increase the size of the buttocks, breasts and other body parts.
“Consumers should be aware that injectable silicone used for body contouring is not FDA approved and may cause serious side effects that may be permanent or even cause death,” the agency said in a 2017 statement.
“Side effects may include persistent pain and serious injuries such as scarring, tissue death and permanent disfigurement; if the silicone leaks beyond the injection site, it can cause embolism (blockage of a blood vessel), stroke, infection and death.”
