Bundesliga club sporting director convinced Real Madrid target will renew his contract – ‘Very confident’

Real Madrid's rumored verbal agreement with Dayot Upamecano did not last long, as it soon became clear that the news was false and that the player had not committed his future to either Real Madrid or Bayern.

Then gradually there was talk that Upamecano was not against extends the deal with Bayern Munich, especially since the German club promises him an important salary and an important role.

Needless to say, events have gradually moved the player away from the Spanish capital, with the deal now looking further away from fruition than ever before.

Bavarian administrator speaks

The sports director of Bayern Munich, Christoph Freund, spoke about this. Florian Plettenberg in a recent conversation when asked about Dayot Upamecano's situation and a possible contract extension with the club.

Although the administrator was unable to provide any guarantees, his response was reassuring enough to believe that the defender could very well remain in Germany and snub Real Madrid.

“It’s always difficult to talk, but I’m very confident in myself,” – he began, saying that Upamecano would most likely renew his contract.

“I knew Upa [Upamecano] for a very long time. He moved to Salzburg when he was 16 and I know how important it is for him to feel comfortable and play football this way.” he added, elaborating on the player's preference for comfort.

Freund then spoke about the offer from Bayern Munich and indirectly made it clear that this may well be enough for the player to stay.

“So I'm confident in what we can offer, but I can't influence what others can do.”

On the sporting side, the sporting director spoke about how Bayern Munich's style of play suits the player well, giving another reason why he is likely to stay where he is comfortable.

“The way we play football suits him very well. You can feel it when he's on the pitch. So we have a lot to offer him as Bayern.”

The final factor Freund cited as contributing to the renewal to success was Upamecano's family life and how comfortable his inner circle was in Munich.

“His family also feels very comfortable in Munich. He knows what he has here and where Bayern are now.”

“So I am very confident that he will stay at Bayern for a long time.” – he concluded.
