Bruno Fernandes reveals how Man United outsmarted Liverpool

Manchester United secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League yesterday.

They were bouncing back from a win before the international break and carried that confidence into the game against the Reds at Anfield.

Amorim's men opened the scoring in the second minute before Liverpool restored parity in the second half with Cody Gakpo hitting the post twice.

United regained the lead thanks to Harry Maguire's header, inflicting a fourth straight defeat on the Premier League champions.

After the game, the Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes told how they managed to tame their main rivals.

The Portuguese midfield maestro said (via BBC): “We knew we had to win our matches. In the first ten minutes we knew they were going to try to start the game really strong.

“Also, in the first half we realized that they were under pressure, when they had time on the ball, the fans were putting them in a difficult position and shouting at them to play faster.

“We wanted to slow them down and we knew it would create huge spaces in the middle. We could have played the ball a little more in the second half.”

Fernandes' comments were echoed by defender Matthijs De Ligt, who added that United had specifically targeted Liverpool's full-backs knowing their vulnerabilities.

The admission will give Liverpool manager Arne Slot something to think about as he looks to stabilize a team that has now lost four players.

The balance between their attacking enthusiasm and defensive grit remains a key issue.

For Manchester United, this victory feels like more than just three points. This represents the momentum that Amorim's team must now build on.

Next up are Brighton & Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur, and these back-to-back wins are laying the foundation for belief.

Maintaining that confidence could finally spark the consistency that has eluded the Red Devils for months.
