PARIS (AP) — Brigitte Bardot, the 1960s French sex symbol who became one of the great screen sirens of the 20th century and later an outspoken animal rights activist and supporter of the far right, has died. She was 91 years old.

Bardot died on Sunday at her home in the south of France, according to Bruno Jacqueline of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for Animal Welfare. Speaking to The Associated Press, he did not give a cause of death and said no funeral or memorial services had been organized. She was hospitalized last month.
