A busy weekend in boxing shook up the men's rankings.
O'Shaquie Foster put on a masterclass, pitching a near shutout against former two-division champion Stephen Fulton. The win moved him up to the No. 2 spot in the junior lightweight rankings. Foster was originally set to defend his WBC title against Fulton. However, when Fulton missed weight, the WBC announced the fight would instead be for the interim WBC lightweight title, with the winner being next in line to face champion Shakur Stevenson.
Foster dominated Fulton from bell to bell, using his jab and keeping Fulton out of range over the 12-round battle. Fulton has been removed from the rankings at featherweight and is unranked at lightweight following the loss.
Lamont Roach Jr. and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz battled to a majority draw, the second for Roach this year. It appeared that Roach had started pulling away late after a competitive first half of the fight. However, two judges scored the fight as a draw, while a third scored it for Cruz. Both fighters remain outside the top 10 with the draw.
Erislandy Lara retained the WBA middleweight title with a unanimous decision against late replacement Johan Gonzalez and re-entered the rankings at No. 3 after being removed for inactivity. Right behind him at No. 4 is Jesus Ramos, who took care of business by turning back a feisty Shane Mosley Jr. with a unanimous decision.
ESPN's divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.
Fighters who haven't competed in the past 12 months — and don't have a fight scheduled — will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.
