Bowen Yang believes that the Wicked series has come to the end of its yellow brick run. When the “Wicked” actor and “Saturday Night Live” star was asked about the possibility of greenlighting a third “Wicked” film, Yang gave an answer that seemed satisfied with how “Evil: For good“Leaves everything unattended.
“I think we’ll leave it here,” Yang said. Diversity Mark Malkin during Diversity At Carpet, presented by Lexus, previously played up the prospect of a spin-off. “I'm going to present the story 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead' with my characters and Bronwyn James's characters. [Pfannee and ShenShen]”
“Wicked: For Good,” the sequel to last year's “Wicked,” is an adaptation of the second (and final) act of the Broadway musical. At the moment, there are no expectations for a third film in the Wicked universe, since the story of the duology ends where the show ends. Series director Jon M. Chu gave his tentative answer when asked about the potential of a third Wicked film.
“What is this about?” – Chu said. “You know, there are a lot of ideas floating around right now… We'll see. Let's enjoy this ride first.”
Yang also expressed joy that his “Wicked” co-star Ariana Grande is returning to “Saturday Night Live” to host in December – with Cher as the musical guest.
“I can't wait. I'm so glad she's there,” Yang said of Cher, calling her her “dream hostess.” “Ariana definitely made a good impression on Cher. We had a 'Christopher Walken Reunion.' [sketch] where everyone is left with a Cher impression. I'm going to host a Cher Family Reunion for Christmas. Everyone has a Cher impression.”
Although Cynthia Erivo and Grande were on the carpet for the New York premiere, neither was available for an interview. Representatives from Universal reached out to the media Monday morning to tell them that Erivo was “not feeling well and has lost her voice.” Grande skipped the interview in solidarity with her partner.
Erivo and Grande were joined at the New York premiere by Wicked co-stars Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Colman Domingo, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum.
“Wicked: For Good” opens in theaters Friday.
