Bowen Yang Crashes Ariana Grande’s ‘SNL’ Monologue to Sing ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’

Bowen Yang was at the center of Ariana Grande's monologue in his last show as an actor. “SNL” on Saturday. The Wicked cast and co-star broke down Grande's monologue, which featured the singer and actress belting out a riff on Mariah Carey's iconic song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” about struggling to figure out what to buy her cousin's boyfriend for the holidays.

“I panicked and ordered a Yeti mug, the Christmas equivalent of a shrug,” one line read, as Grande pondered, “What am I getting for Christmas for this dude?”

Ian spoke a couple of lines in the song and was greeted with loud applause before Grande gave him a warm hug. news of his departure broke down on Friday.

Grande asked him on stage, “Can I just say how much I loved your line from 'Wicked'?”

“Thank you,” Yang replied before elaborating. What was his only line in “Wicked: For Good”.

Other Saturday Night Live cast members joined Grande and Young in performing the song while wearing Christmas sweaters for the annual holiday show.

“What about a coupon for a bath massage?” one is sure.

“It would probably scare him,” Grande responded.

Another idea: “How about a Matthew Morrison cameo?”

“That would Really scare him,” Grande sang.

The surprise departure of Young, who first joined as a writer on Season 44 in 2018, follows an exodus of cast members following “SNL's” landmark 50th season, which included departures from the series. Heidi Gardnerwho starred in the series for eight seasons, as well as My money, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow and Season 50 newcomer Emil Wakim.

After one season as a writer, Ian joined the cast as a leading player in season 45 and was promoted to main cast in season 47. During his time on “SNL,” Yang received five Emmy Award nominations, including four nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and one for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.
