Schumer's shutdown is nearing completion, and the agreement will soon head to the House of Representatives, where it is expected to pass. Eight Senate Democrats have joined Republicans in ignoring the angry mouths of their colleagues who seem to think they can placate their base by shouting “fight” enough times.
However, it is no longer the mid-2010s. The theater of failure, consisting of social media appearances winking and nodding at capitulation, is not enough for the horror show of the base the Democratic Party has coddled for years. On that note, the Bluesky leftist echo chamber is in the process of completely collapsing over this deal. Here's just a small sample.

Schadenfreude aside, this is a case where I don’t want to say, “I told you so.” I've lost count of the number of times I've warned Democrats that they are playing with fire for cheap political gain by coddling the more radical portion of their base. Now they are no longer a part. They're just base Democratic Party. Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer created a Frankenstein voting bloc, believing they could stop the monster from unleashing by occasionally patting it on the head.
Nothing short of real, tangible revolution, even physical violence to overthrow the Republicans, will appease the far left at this point. That's how crazy the Democratic electorate is right now, and when you court this population, it's impossible to get them to form a party. On the contrary, they adopt party, and that's exactly what happened. Zohran Mamdani is just the latest example, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is set to run for president in 2028. They dominate the Democratic Party while the Biden wing continues to implode, having signed orders for its own destruction. Arrogance is a real drug.

For his part, Schumer seems to think he can handle the situation by voting against the deal, allowing others to take charge. However, none of the crazy people in his base fall for this.

After the 2024 elections, the Democrats began a civil war, and despite some hints of introspection, the far left won. However, there may be several civil wars, and another one is about to begin. How much more can the already leftist establishment lose before there is nothing left?
In theory, this is a big problem for Democrats because the more powerful the far left is, the less electable they should be. However, politics does not happen in a vacuum. Republicans must be able to deliver results that move Americans away from what the Democratic Party is becoming. The asylum is currently run by the prisoners, but if they escape, what may have seemed like a blessing to conservatives will suddenly turn into a nightmare.
