There are no more puzzles in video games. There are too many people and too much of the Internet to afford such a thing, anything that doesn't have an answer can, should, and will be solved by someone, often in a time frame faster than the developers expect. So I appreciate it when developers refuse to divulge details or pander to people's desire to know exactly how much they have on their checklist, one such developer is Tonda Ros from Blue Prince developer Dogubomb.
In response to a question from PC gamer as to whether there are still any mysteries left in puzzle In the game, Ros said that there are definitely some, and that “there will probably always be some puzzles in the game. And to maintain this mystery, I will probably never fully admit whether everything is revealed or not.” Music to my ears!
Ros goes further and says, “I know some games will be a bit of a canary in the coal mine, right? For Ros, the question of whether everything is found in the Blue Prince is one he believes people will always ask. “The only thing I will say is that the mysteries still exist,” he said. “Not to say that these are necessarily problems that can be solved in certain ways, but they are things to which you can piece together answers, often intuitively.”
I sincerely hope this is something we see more of from developers in the future. There is a huge inclination towards complete and utter player satisfaction, but for me there is nothing more satisfying than wanting more, a reason to keep coming back, even if the gaps between return trips end up being days, weeks, months or years. Tell me about your mysterious developers! I may not solve them, but I will think about them.
