Tonda Ros' The Blue Prince is a huge indie success, but the creator isn't trying to release a direct sequel.
Blue Prince this is one of the years undeniable indie hits — and in this business, that usually leads to talk of a sequel. But developer Tonda Ros says he may be done with the atmospheric puzzle game whose fairy-tale mansion and changing rules have captured players' imaginations.
IN new interview with PolygonRos sees clearly what will happen next: not a continuation and not even localization effortsdespite how loudly the fans ask. Ros explained that the expansion Blue Prince there will be a personal price to pay that he is not willing to pay.
“It's a difficult decision to allow Blue Prince be accessible to more people, but potentially risk burning out yourself and/or giving up on making a completely different game,” he said. Initial development took over eight years, and localizing it properly to reach a global audience would essentially mean “making a second game.” And he's not interested in making Blue Prince 2 or.
“There will be no direct sequel to the film. Blue Prince“, – said Ros. – There may be a game in this universe, but I can’t even say that it will most likely be in the same genre.”
Instead, he hopes to retain the originality that resonated with the original in the first place. “I want all my projects to be able to stand on their own and be unique,” he said. “This is exactly the type of sequels I like. Mist followed by RivenNo Mist 2.»
Whatever Ros builds next will be unpredictable. That's the whole point. Any future project, he said, “will involve the same risk as Blue Prince took it.”
