Blue Jays, Election top Google’s Canadian 2025 Year in Search

With less than a month left until the end of 2025, Google has revealed most popular search queries what Canadians did this year.

American League Winner Toronto Blue Jays were the top Google search results nationwide. Not only did the team top search results for news and events, but the players themselves also dominated the list of athletes, with seven of the top ten being members of the team (Addison Barger, Trey Yesavage, and many more).

When it comes to issues, the Blue Jays and playoff baseball ranked high in many categories. To name just a few, Canadians have asked about why baseball players spit, how many pitches there are, how tall Alejandro Kirk is, and how many baseballs are used in MLB games (roughly 84 to 120, in case you were wondering).

Politics and international events also dominated search results this year, especially the Canadian election.

For starters, Canada's election results ranked second in the news and events category. Newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney topped the list of people's most searched terms, with Jagmeet Singh coming in 10th place. Even former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been the subject of searches this year, with his resignation and new romance with pop star Katy Perry (lol) charting in multiple categories.

In other political events, international events have also attracted a large number of inquiries this year. The murder of Charlie Kirk was the top search topic in many categories, including number one among other notable deaths. This is followed by wildfires in the Pacific Palisades, a new Pope and tariffs between the US and Canada.
