Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni Legal Battle: Extortion Claims Addressed

December 31, 2024: Baldoni, Wayfarer and others sue New York Times

Baldoni, Wayfarer, Heath, Sarowitz, Nathan, TAG, Abel, RWA Communications, Wallace and Street Communications sued for $250 million against New York Times December 31st.

In a suit obtained by E! New York Times was charged with libel, false invasion of privacy, debt fraud and breach of implied contract for its article about a retaliatory smear campaign the plaintiffs allegedly carried out against Lively after she raised concerns about alleged misconduct on set.

Stating that the report was “false” and based on Lively's CRD complaint, the plaintiffs denied the allegations and said that messages given in the article and the complaints were taken out of context.

“Despite the statement that they “studied these documents along with other documents,”[,]' Time “relied almost entirely on Lively's unverified and self-serving story,” the lawsuit says, “reversing it almost verbatim while ignoring a wealth of evidence that contradicted her claims and revealed her true motives.”

They argued that “it was Lively, not Plaintiffs, who engaged in an elaborate smear campaign.” She denied it.

New York Times said it plans to “vigorously defend against the lawsuit.”

“The role of an independent news organization is to follow the facts where they lead,” they told E!. “Our story has been told carefully and responsibly. It was based on an analysis of thousands of pages of original documents, including text messages and emails, which we quote accurately and in detail in the article.”
