Blackburn Defends Seizure of Venezuelan Oil Tanker: ‘Enforcing Sanctions’

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) defended the seizure of the Venezuelan oil tanker, arguing that President Donald Trump had every right to do so and that the United States just compliance with sanctions.

During the episode Breitbart News Dailyhost Mike Slater asked the gubernatorial candidate about capture Venezuelan oil tanker, given the reaction of the left.

“[It was] led by another of your constituents, our Secretary of War Pete Hegseth,” Slater said. – Are you satisfied with this? …Is the left calling this a shocking escalation, or are we simply applying the sanctions that have been in place since 2015?”

“Yes, we apply sanctions,” the Tennessee senator responded. “The president has the right to do this, and it is extremely important that we enforce these sanctions. Look at what happened in Venezuela. When you look at the fact that sanctions were not important, they were not applied to China, to Russia, and Donald Trump says, 'No, there are sanctions. This is the law. We will enforce it.”

She said the left has no right to be upset about this, but they have essentially become accustomed to the Biden administration ignoring the law.

“I will say that during Joe Biden's presidency they worked overtime trying to legalize illegal things and circumvent US law, and now you have Donald Trump saying, 'No, the law is the law. We're going to enforce it.” And suddenly they get very upset,” she noted.

“We should all be about upholding the law. If they don't like the law, they can try to change the law, but they can't get support for changing the law, so they just try to get around it,” she added.
